One of the concepts I hope to explore soon on Risk+Progress is the "dematerialization" of products that we consume, that enable us to do more with less. To that end, might it actually be better think of digital technology in terms of carbon footprint that it reduces relative to physical world analogues?

For example, I may send more emails now that have the convenience of email, but I am reducing the number of physical letters I am sending in the mail. I get the news on my phone, surely this actually saves C02 compared with a daily newspaper, magazine subscriptions...etc.

Yes definitely. Digital activities are of course better than sending letters by post or organizing in-person meetings when it's not necessary. This article just highlights how to make the best use of digital technologies without harming our planet :).

Yes, Sesha. Thank you :). Many times we have to consider our human emotions too. Even though we feel the impact the short emails have on the planet, we also have to meet the other parties' expectations. My best practice so far has been deleting unnecessary emails immediately.
